The Smith45 is the ultimate center console fishing boat. Some of the standard items include a 42 gallon livewell built into the transom with a 12 inch viewing window built into the transom, outriggers, 12 stainless steel rod holders, fighting chair and fresh and saltwater washdowns.

Standard on the Smith45 is a 42 gallon livewell with a 12 inch viewing window and a fish cutting station complete with running salt and fresh water built into the transom.

Standard on the Smith boat are outriggers and a T-top that has spreader lights forward, aft and side floods all on separate switches.

The boat comes standard with an exceptional electronics/navagation package that is based on (2) 12.1" Raymarine E-120 multiple display screens each with Raystar 125 GPS sensors (2) for navigation redundancy.

We also mount (6) stainless steel rod holders into the top of the V-berth bulkhead. The rods stay securely in place with the rod itself resting against the carpet headliner. We provide foam tubes to put over the rod tips for safety and to act as wear pad to protect the headliner carpet.

Don Smith Power Boats come equipped with twin 480 horsepower Yanmar diesel engines. This pocket yacht is guaranteed to exceed your expectations.

The SMITH45 CDF has 23 inch propellers that are tucked up high into the hull in Power-Vent pocket drives. The propeller pockets and Power-Vent tunnels are flooded at rest. Engine exhaust exits below the water line for a quiet and odor-free operation.

At idle, the Power-Vent feeds the propeller a moderate amount of air reducing engine loads by allowing a moderate amount of slip.

At cruise, the Power-Vent system feeds the surfacing propeller a large amount of air vastly improving its efficiency by eliminating the drag of the strut, the upper part of the rudder and the upper half of the propeller.

Don Smith Power Boats are constructed of 60 percent Kevlar and 40 percent E-glass. They are 20 percent woven to prevent even the possibility of shear, providing the tencel strenth of Kevlar with the compression strength of E-glass.

At speed, the upper half of the propeller on most boats becomes drag rather than thrust. In addition to the dependability and the simplicity of a shaft strut and rudder system, the Power-Vent system is also a full surface drive allowing the propeller to operate with 50 percent of its blades above the running surface of the water. This reduces drag as well as raising the strut and upper part of the rudder out of the hard water stream.

The POWER-VENT drive system allows for extremely shallow operational draft, which allows our boat to be beached stern first to deploy ATVs directly onto the beach.

The US Navy became intensely interested in the superior rough water ride characteristics of our boats; its handling and weight carrying ability.

The boats maiden voyage was the 900 mile run up the East Coast from Florida to Norfolk VA. She made her delivery trip without incident in rough seas through freezing rain turning to snow and actually breaking surface ice to arrive at the Navy docks in Norfolk.

While we are all very proud of the efficient blend of style, function, reliability and toughness in the production CDF 45s we build every day, our military version features an extra heavy focus on being just plain tough and reliable over all else.

For the US Navy the cargo box has been specify designed to carry and deploy (2) rubber inflatable boats and features built in provisions to firmly hold their outboard engines securely when not in use. It can also easily transport or transport (2) four wheel ATVs.

Official delivery of this first boat was completed on 1-13-02.
